Nestled within a tranquil wooded landscape, this newly built country home is a thoughtful combination of its idyllic setting and modern convenience, designed for the active lifestyle of a young family. The architecture thoughtfully balances the family's daily activities with the grandeur and detail expected from such a property. Drawing inspiration from its picturesque rural setting, we selected materials that reflect robust earthy qualities. Character-rich, wide-planked oak floors, carefully wire-brushed, lay alongside rough, tumbled limestone walls, which together grounds the home’s expansive vaulted ceilings and enriches the visual experience. In contrast, creamy linen-toned painted panel work introduces a sense of rhythm and detail, offering structure to the intrinsic beauty of these natural materials. One of the key challenges was to create a spacious interior that feels warm and inviting. By dividing the home into functional zones, we developed tailored designs for each area, using a cohesive palette of materials and textures which ebb and flow as purpose required. This allowed for variations in character within a structured set of parameters. Finally, the furniture, furnishings and décor define the atmosphere. Casual comfort is achieved with relatively simple forms and a light neutral palette in family areas, while rich colours invigorate spaces designed for entertaining. The primary suite, a retreat from the bustling family life, softens previously bold hues, introducing light upholstered walls and cocooning draperies that foster serenity.
